TDM Group Delivers an Enterprise-Grade Virtualised Infrastructure to the Symbian Foundation
The Symbian Foundation, a non-profit organisation formed to steward the Symbian software platform and support a vibrant mobile ecosystem, will utilise build and development services on a fully managed VMware environment implemented by TDM Group - the IT and professional services company.
Symbian is using an enterprise IT infrastructure that TDM Group has designed, built from scratch, deployed and is now managing.
VMware virtualisation software and NetApp storage systems provided by TDM Group will allow the foundation to make total implementation and ongoing operational cost savings of around 50 per cent for virtualised services, when compared with other suppliers. Servers will be used to their optimum capacity and Symbian teams will benefit from a resilient, virtual environment.
"As a non-profit organisation we need to keep a keen eye on our operating costs. The TDM Group responded swiftly and provided us with a robust system that can be quickly and easily scaled." said Ian McDonald, Head of Symbian's internal IT systems. "The private cloud infrastructure was built within a tight time frame of just 12 weeks. It provides 24/7 access to a secure environment for around 100 global employees to collaborate with a wider ecosystem in creating the most proven and complete mobile software platform."

The infrastructure has been designed so we can react quickly by adding or re-assigning resources to meet fluctuating demand, thus reducing cost. Within minutes TDM Group can increase the number of virtual machines and physical servers required for the build process by multiples of hundreds of per cent if required. It's imperative that users of their IT infrastructure have secure and reliable 24x7 access enabling them to carry out their work from anywhere in the world, and at anytime."
